Carpet-making skills built up in Connemara that were nearly lost are attracting
attention in London on the back a new luxury range.
FOR NEARLY four decades, McMurray Carpets, based in Moyard in Connemara, supplied embassies, banks, luxury yachts and hotels worldwide with intricately designed, high-quality creations. Today, the company, renamed Connemara Carpets, is back in action after a two-year gap, travelling to London recently to exhibit during London Design Week, the hub for top international designers. The Moyard carpets of the company’s earlier chapter travelled far, even into the world of Middle Eastern riches, furnishing palaces in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, along with those held by the Saudi royal family in Riyadh and Jeddah.
